medidote is a study app for medical students. This page explains what information the app collects, what we use it for, who else handles it, and the choices you have. Using the app is also covered by the Terms of Use.
Who we are
medidote is run by Malak Elsadek, based in Egypt. Contact: emmykades@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details. If you sign in with Google, your name, email address and profile picture. If emailed sign-in links are offered, your email address.
- Your study data. Decks, questions, folders, review history, statistics and settings such as theme, sound and zoom.
- Your slides. The PDF, the text of each page and a cover image of the first page.
- Generated questions, with their explanations and the slides they came from.
- Question reports. When you tap "Report it" on a question, we save the question, the reasons you picked and any note you write.
- Plan, usage and payments. Your plan status, free-trial end date, renewal date, the price you pay and how many AI questions you have used this month. When you pay, we keep a record of the date and amount. Card or wallet details are entered on the payment provider's page and never reach us.
- Messages. If you email us, we keep the emails so we can answer you and arrange payment. If you send feedback in the app, we keep the message and any screenshots or videos you attach, with the page you were on. Do not attach anything showing patient information.
- How you use the app. While you are signed in, we record what you do and when, tied to your account: for example opening the app, which page you visit, creating a deck, uploading slides, writing questions with AI (and whether it worked), starting and finishing a study session, whether each answer was right and how long it took, sending feedback or a report, and looking at or pressing Subscribe. We do not record the text of your questions, slides or messages in this log. It stays in our own database; we do not use a separate analytics service or advertising trackers.
- On your device. The app keeps your sign-in session and some preferences in your browser's local storage.
We do not collect your phone number, location or contacts, and the app has no advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your decks and progress in your account, on all your devices.
- To write questions from the slides you choose.
- To apply free-period and plan limits, and show your usage.
- To read question reports and improve the quality of generated questions.
- To understand how the app is used (for example where people stop, or which features help), so we can fix problems and improve it. We look at this per person as well as in total.
- To keep the app secure and working, and to fix problems.
We do not sell your information.
Who else handles it
These services help us run the app. They handle your information only to provide their service to us.
| Service | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign-in, database and private file storage | Account details, study data, slide PDFs, question reports |
| "Sign in with Google" | Your Google login, handled by Google | |
| Anthropic (Claude) | The AI that writes questions | The text of the slide pages you choose, and images of any of those pages that are mostly pictures, tables or diagrams |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the website | Standard web request information such as your IP address |
| An email sender (Brevo or Resend, planned) | Sends your sign-in link by email | Your email address and the sign-in message |
| Paymob (planned) | Card and wallet payments, once paid plans start | Payment details, entered on their page. We do not see or store your card number |
Important: when you generate questions, the selected slide pages are sent to Anthropic. Do not upload slides with information about identifiable patients, or anything else you are not allowed to share. Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy cover how it handles that content.
These services run servers outside Egypt, so your information can be stored and processed in other countries. We may also share information if the law requires it.
Your slides
Slides are kept in private storage that only your account can open. Only upload material you have the right to use.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When an account is deleted, we delete its details, decks, review history, slides, reports and usage log. Copies in routine backups can remain for a short time before they are overwritten. We keep the record of payments you made (date and amount, no name or email) for our accounts, as the law may require.
Your choices
- Sign out any time in Settings.
- Delete a deck, a folder or a slide file in the app, which also removes its slides.
- Delete your account in Settings, which removes your details, decks, review history, slides, reports and usage log straight away. Or email us to ask what we hold about you.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you. This is also your right under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020).
- Clear the app's local storage in your browser at any time. You will be signed out.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, and each account's data is kept apart by access rules in the database. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Children
medidote is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Not medical advice
Questions written by the AI can be wrong. Always check them against your course material. medidote is a study aid, not medical advice.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when payments start. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell you in the app about any significant change.
